RJ Chisum Furniture started as a small company base out of Texas that was stablished as a family business in 1999. Its humble beginnings and struggles have shaped this company through the years and has made its family members understand the importance of innovation and furniture designing to stay ahead of the game, and one of those products, the Chisum Swivel Barstool has been one of the most important designs for Rj Chisum Furniture, because it has open the doors for this home base tiny company to some of the most important western and leather furniture stores in Texas.

RJ Chisum's first customer was Brumbaughs Furniture in Weatherford Tx, Where Larry Brambaughs gave RJ Chisum a chance to sell him round cowhide ottomans, which later turned into dining chairs, and ultimately the Chisum swivel barstool which took off right away. The Chisum Barstools was developed by Ronny Gonzales and critiqued and tested at Texas Leather Interiors by Paul Gonzalez (no relation) owner of Texas Leather Interiors who had just moved operations From California to San Antonio Texas. Ronny and Paul gave shape to the first Chisum barstool which was a hit in the homes of hill country of texas and San Antonio area. This first barstool was very close to its present day version but was a bit more rustic and thicker. Thru the years Ronny and Paul have worked closely as a vendor and customer, and later as partners in the RJ Chisum factory developing new products to stay ahead of the pack.
The Chisum swivel barstool has had a few improvements thru the years, not only to the pitch of the back or the padding on the arms to bring more comfort, also the foam use to make them just the right firmness, but also the thickness of wood and the way wood is jointed. The Chisum barstools build today, thanks to technology, company growth and CNC Routers acquire by company in 2020, have gone from having Butt joints with wood dowels and glue, to having exposed jigsaw Dado type joints in all the parts on the wood base of the barstool which is the strongest union possible and because of the CNC, precision are seamless which makes every wood base exactly the same to each other, bringing quality and uniformity to the product. Barstools are still assemble by hand and sanded by hand to still retain its rustic spirit and hand made look.

The top of the barstool, has undergone even more changes thanks to CNC technology, and are built like a puzzle that allow us to make sure each barstools have exactly the same seating pitch (angle), the same arm height, the same feel to them and also are 200% more solid than its predecessors, because the puzzle like assemble is basically a spider's web which distributes pressure throughout the frame, this new generation has just been perfected allowing us to be ahead of imitation barstools that have been produce through the years which we respect and understand how they are build and even feel proud that others have tried to immitate us, but after 20+ of building this barstool we have learned a lot and know that our Original Rj Chisum Barstool is still the best barstool build of its kind.
